Felt like showing some steps to [link] . Not really a tutorial, or anything, but meh.
So 1. kinda sketchy lines, I was confused about how much should i tighten them, I knew that the structures would give me a hard time if the lines weren't clear, but i left them like this and only cleared Silvanna.
2. Silvanna.. As with the structures, I knew that a cleaner line would help with the details later. That's because I'm more of a drawing guy than a painter. Some don't even use lines, and figure out the details in paint. I'm trying to be flexibile and be able to achive that too because sometimes you just need to work fast. Also, when you start with lines and try to finally reach a painterly look, i find it difficult to get RID of the lines. Smudging, erasing, painting over them, that's what usually takes long, and I really need to figure something out to save time.
3. This is the first color pass, where you set the atmosphere. (the bottom left is finished, that's the image that i saved : < )At this stage I'm trying my best to use everything I've learned from Feng Zhu's tutorials: Achieving an image that 'works' when you zoom out. Getting the values right, using a BW layer to check the values, paying attention to foreground/background color relations. Close objects are more saturated and contrast-y, while the farther ones (in this case those that reach towards the floor) are a bit lost in the atmoshperic haze, so they appear more pale.
4. What i do next usually, is, after the previous step that i do on 1 single layer, i cut some parts on separate layers: the drones, the foreground structure, the background structures, the floor, the lady, and detail them separately. There's several ways of approaching detailing objects that overlap. Some don't even bother with layers, others use the history brush to go back on parts that weren't ment to be touched, others duplicate layer, and erase..
5. Here, the background is kinda done, and while having Silvanna on a layer, I started to tighten the colors, but I kinda did it over again from scratch, and i kinda lost the blending in the atmoshpere of the image, so i had to take care of that.
6. So yea, I tried my best to blend everything so the image is unified. The color balance is my best friend, and the detailing while loosing the lines was tedious, I passed throu some hard times when i thought that this ain't going anywhere, and i just had to kick myself in the ass and push forward.
